Ok, here it is, the pattern for this pin cushion I made last week. I feel I need to add a little disclaimer her. I’ve never written a pattern before, so please forgive any mistakes, confusion, etc. Please ask if something doesn’t make sense.

CROCHET PIN CUSHION

materials:
4ply yarn in three colours (I used Rowan cotton yarn)
3mm crochet hook
needle for sewing ends in
craft stuffing

abbreviations:
ch: chain
dc: double crochet
ss: slip stitch
*** please note these are UK terms

method (make 2):

Using the first colour (I used lemon) start with a magic ring (this post here by Alice describes how to make these really well)

round 1: 2 ch (counts as first dc), 5 dc into circle, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (6 sts)

round 2: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 2 dc into every dc to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (12 sts)

round 3: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next st, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next st; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (18 sts)

round 4: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 2 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 2 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (24 sts)

round 5: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1dc into next 3 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 3 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (30 sts)

change to second colour (I used pink)

round 6: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 4 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 4 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (36 sts)

round 7: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 2 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 2 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (48 sts)

round 8: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 3 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 3 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (60 sts)

round 9: 2 ch, 1 dc into each stitch of previous row (no increase, 60 sts)

round 10: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next  4 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 4 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (72 sts)

round 11: 2 ch, 1 dc into each stitch of previous row (no increase, 72 sts)

round 12: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 5 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 5 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (84 sts)

round 13: 2 ch, 1 dc into each stitch of previous row (no increase, 84 sts)

round 14: 2 ch, 1 dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 6 sts, *2 dc into next st, 1 dc into next 6 sts; rep from * to end of round, join with a ss into top of first 2 ch (96 sts)

round 15: 2 ch, 1 dc into each stitch of previous row (no increase, 96 sts)

change to final colour (I used green)

round 16: 2 ch, 1 dc into each stitch of previous row (no increase, 96 sts)

to make up:

1. Put two sides wrong sides facing.
2. Insert hook into both sides and make 1ch, 1 dc into each st – make sure you put the hook through both sides, therefore joining them together.
3. Leave a gap to insert stuffing (insert stuffing in small pieces, but you need lots)!
4. Finishing joining with dc until fully joined
5. Fasten off and sew in any ends.
6. Using the last colour you used, sew (double strands) on yarn to divide the pin cushion into eights, then add buttons top and bottom. (Sorry, there’s no easy way to explain this part and it’s a bit fiddly, it was really trial and error)!
