Yarn Corner: A Life in Yarn

It was such a lovely spring day today. That means only one thing, of course, a Crochet Day! And, what better place to crochet, but at the Royal Melbourne Show, with the lovely ladies from Yarn Corner.

Yarn Corner is a Melbourne-based yarn bombing group. Their website tagline says it all, “Covering the Town in Yarn”. And by “town”, what they currently mean is the Royal Melbourne Show. In fact, their “A Life in Yarn” installation includes a completely yarn covered 4-bedroom house, car, caravan, and backyard equipment.

The highlight of the house would have to be the yarn bombed bathroom, complete with toilet, hand basin, bath filled with water (granny squares in all shades of blue), towel rack, rubber duckies and much more.

I believe about 60 people contributed all up, from peeps like me who sent in a few squares, to whole pieces / blankets / couch covers / vases … and just so much more.

Led by worthy leader Bali, Yarn Corner has members all over the world, with contributors posting in their bombing preparations.

KOGO ~ Knit One Give One

KOGO is made up of a group of wonderful volunteer knitters and crocheters based in Melbourne, who make blankets, hats, scarves, toys and lots lots more for those in need.

A friend of mine has knitted for KOGO for years, and it’s often been on my “To Do List” to make something, but I never quite got around to it.  But then another group I belong to suggested making a Granny-Square-A-Day, then sewing them into blankets for KOGO.

So, I’m getting started….

This is based on a blanket I’ve been admiring on Purl Bee for ages. It’s called Bear’s Rainbow Blanket, and it’s so gorgeous.

I’m using up leftovers from my pink stash, so hopefully a little baby girl somewhere will like this 🙂
